Janso light.
I made my first LED light for the lathe and this is described here. However, I came across a better alternative.
The Janso light , shown above, was purchased from IKEA. It is a high power LED light with a small (circa 30 mm diameter) lightweight head. It is designed to clip to a surface about 25 mm thick. It come complete with an plug in power supply at a cost of around £10
The light is extremely powerful and is ideal as a machine light. The small size of the head means that this obscures very little.

To attach the light to the lathe I made a small bracket that attaches to the chip guard at the back of the lathe. The bracket consists of a block of wood to which is screwed a powerful magnet taken from an old hard drive.
A piece of steel sheet was bent to a right angle and attached to the top of the block with two screws.
The bracket clips over the back of the chip guard and the Janso light then clips to the protruding block. All the wiring is behind the lathe so there is no danger of it becoming entangled with moving machinery.
I am impressed with this light and I shall buy another to use on the mill.
