Toolpost slotting tool
This toolpost slotting tool was made for making keyways in gears and pulleys. It is designed to fit directly on to my QCTP. The tool post block was a spare boring tool holder; hence the three screws in the top to blank off the holes for the clamp screws.
This is a close up of the slotting head. The ram is 12 mm diameter and turned to a good sliding fit in the bore of the toolpost block. The head of the ram is bored 8 mm for the slot cutter which is held in by the two screws protruding. The other end of the ram is slotted for the handle.
The slot cutter is a length of 8 mm rod with a square hole near the tip to accomodate a square HSS tool. The tool is retained by a grub screw in the end of the bar.
The screw to the left of the toolpost hole is for height adjustment.

This shows the slotting tool mounted on the lathe.
This slotting tool is good for cutting keyways in gears and pulleys with bore diameters of 10 mm or more. It is hard to make small enough cutters for holes of smaller bore.
