Work Nudger.

Picture
Often after parting off a workpiece it is necessary to put it back in the lathe to do more work on it. If it is a thin circular piece then it is difficult to reset it up so that the front face runs perpendicular to the spindle axis. This simple nudger can be used to nudge the piece, which is held lightly in the chuck, until it runs true.
It consists of a small ball bearing attached to a plate that fits into a normal tool holder.

The bearing is  19 mm diameter, with a bore of 6 mm and it is 6 mm wide. It was salvaged from a scrapped item. it is attached to a piece of 6 x 12 mm bar 67 mm long. A 50 mm piece of 6 mm square bar is also attached to the main bar so that it can be clamped in a toolholder.

The bearing is held to the bar with a M6 hex head bolt and nut . There are two washers either side of thebearing to prevent it rubbing on the bolt or bar.

The 6 mm square bar is held onto the main bar using two M4 countersunk screws.
